Confession: I Have a LARGE Sweet Tooth

So yeah, this recipe was a happy accident, born out of a major moment of weakness and severe lack of sleep :)  My staff members affectionately refer to them as "Death Brownies" or "Death by Brownie."  They're amazing hot, cold, the next day (IF you can hide one away that long without eating it), and they're WICKED GOOD as part of a brownie sundae.

Seriously though, they're the easiest box brownie hack you'll ever make.  Even easier than adding peanut butter cups (sorry, mom) or Rolos because I don't have to unwrap all those little buggers!

"___________________" BROWNIES

1 box of brownie mix (for a 9"x13" pan) AND all the ingredients it calls for
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
1-2 cups mini marshmallows
2 big messy spoonfuls of peanut butter (okay, so I kind of just eyeball it!)
2 normal spoonfuls of powdered sugar (probably about 2 1/2 - 3 Tablespoons)

Preheat your oven as directed on brownie box.  Mix brownies according to directions.  Add the chocolate chips and enough marshmallows so that it seems like there's just enough batter to cover them.  Make sure all the marshmallows are at least coated a little so they don't burn.  Pour batter mix into a greased 9"x13" pan.  Sometimes it's tricky to get the marshmallows spread out.  Place the peanut butter in a small microwavable bowl and heat for 20 seconds or until runny and soft.  Stir in powdered sugar, it's okay if it's a little lumpy.  Microwave for 20 more seconds until it's soft again.  Use a spoon to drizzle/glop the peanut butter into 3 rows the long way and then draw the spoon through back and forth to spread out.  Orrrrrr, you can just glop it on.  It still tastes good :)  Cook for a little less time than directed, for some reason (probably all the sugar) they tend to cook a little faster than regular brownies.

EAT....and don't even THINK about the nutrition facts!!  Sometimes we need to eat for health, sometimes we eat for sanity.  At least, that's what I tell myself regularly.

Life in a Residence Hall: The Worst Part of the Job

When people think of what the worst part of life as an RD, I know many think it would likely be the constantly over flowing toilets, the never ending relationship drama, continually reminding students they left their moms and maids at home, reminding students to go to class and do their homework, and the ridiculous hours. Maybe some of you have a better idea - you know it has to be the boat load of paper work that follows an incident report, especially one with multiple people involved.

For me, none of those even comes close to dismissing a student from the residence hall. I HATE dismissals. I mean I don't like disciplinary parts anyways, but these are the worst of the worst. Even when the resident is someone who had it coming, who has repeatedly made poor decisions throughout their time here I hate terminating their housing agreement.

Yes, they're my resident, but they're also a part of the fabric and community here in the building, it stinks when they are no longer welcome because they made one too many stupid decisions.

Usually dismissals are people who are already on probation, they've maybe struggled with classes or broken the rules. Most residents make an honest effort when given a second chance. To watch and be a part of great improvement in an individual only to have them slip up and be dismissed is heart wrenching. Who knows if they'll be able to commute and stay in school to graduate, if they'll give up the change and say "F*ck it" (sorry, it's the most common phrase around here) and go back to the mess they were before.....I don't dare say.

So many of them have such messed up lives away from here. Normalcy has a completely foreign meaning for me when applied to their lives. Multiple parents, step parents, foster parents, adoptive parents, stand in parents, and the all too common absent parents. Not to mention the jail time, lost driver's licenses, etc.; it's overwhelming.

It leaves me with moments where all I can do is breathe and pray.

Slowing Down

I miss blogging.  I've allowed myself to get so caught up in the day to day to do lists and never ending cycles of just one more or I have time for that that I've neglected to keep my outlet for things that make me think or laugh or wonder.

Don't get me wrong, I love my job, even though it is 24 hours a day most days of the week.  I've been praying to not allow myself to lose sight of the important parts in the heaps of papers, boxes of files, never ending emails, and exploding binders of disciplinary incidents.  It's easy for me to tune out the chaos and "mhm" my way through a conversation when I'm working against a deadline or prepping for yet another meeting, but those conversations are the reason I do this job.

Just because a particular student might drive me crazy every time they flop into the armchair across from my desk doesn't make their problems and concerns for the day any less important or any less deserving of my attention.

One of the most frequent reminders I have for them is to ask them what went WELL/GOOD during their day.  They often have a hard time identifying something.   Their days are filled with relationship drama of their own, the over flowing toilets, bad cafeteria food, and forgetting to study for tests so they get bad grades.  Sometimes it's hard to see the happy points.  I love asking them about their days, their faces get that thinking look and then their eyes light up, "I got an A on my math test!  It was the first A I've EVER had in math!" or "Oh!  Have you seen the Lifting Competition flyers?  They have a picture of ME in the background doing the deadlift!  How cool is that?!  I want to put them up everywhere!" or "I found my key!" or "Look! I'm wearing heels!  They make me have a butt!"

These might seem like weird things to get excited about, but if I'm having these conversations with them, they also tell me when stuff is not so good and when they need help.  It is usually the students who I don't talk with who are the ones who drop out or fail out.  Talking with them and genuinely listening helps me relay that I CARE about them, I WANT to know what is going on and that I LIKE them.

When I let the other parts of my job take precedent over that part, I'm failing us all.

New Chapter, New Challenges

So many changes in the past few weeks--new job, new apartment, new town--AHH!  New! NEW! NeW!

I love working with my residents!  It's a brand new adventure everyday and each day definitely has its challenges.  A big thing so far has been the lack of internet which is both a good and bad thing. On the down side, students tend to be pretty addicted to internet and have been more than a little miffed at the lack of reliable internet, not to mention it makes it a little tough to complete online homework.  However, on a good note, the wonky internet has forced students out of their rooms into the hallways and common rooms and they are interacting with each other and making friends faster.

I'm praying for balance as the year gets underway, it's been a big adjustment to get used to working out of an office instead of my apartment.  Plus, the lack of internet aside from my work computer makes it hard to do any of my personal life internet (banking, email, bills, etc.) without having people in my office or knocking on my door.  Without balance my introvert self with be fried in short order (no pun intended :) ).

Sleep is a big deal, I feel like I spend all my non office time sleeping.....I guess that would also be a balance thing.  I still am not unpacked :(  Dreamland is calling!

Walking the Quasimodo Walk, Talking the, uh, something something Talk

Well, That was QUITE a weekend.  I'm so tired and sore, yet it was completely worth it.

**Disclaimer** I am still wicked tired, I've been having a hard time typing all day, so please be forgiving on any typos :)

Friday came and we were all on the road by 3:30PM headed for Twin Pines at the New England Outdoor Center.  WOOHOO for leaving on time, I was SOOO pumped for this!!   The van ran like a champ and we didn't break down (possibly my MOST exciting part of the trip).  The students who attended were able to hang out, get to know each other better, enjoy a weekend at a beautiful lakeside cabin, hike Mt. Katahdin in some of the wort possible weather and really just have a blast!

I guess a quick recap would be:
* Slept about 7 hours total all weekend
* Drove over 6 hours
* Went to bed at 4AM after doing laundry for 6 hours.....but had to investigate why our room was about 100 degrees......someone had turned the radiant heat up to 85.....plus our room had had a dryer running for the past 7 hours.....yeah.
* A bunch of the students jumped into Millinocket Lake at 10 PM on Sept. 30
* I got to see a couple of my friends from high school :)
* Hiked into Chimney Pond with 2 other girls while the rest went all the way to the top.....we hiked in clouds all day
* Auntie made us cookies for the ride back :):):):):):)   <--------BIG HIGHLIGHT!!!
* Tons of laughing and smiles and fun all around

This was one of the only views of the mountain we had all day....it was kind of eerie to hike in the mist all day

This was our whole group at the Roaring Brook ranger station :)

This was at the Chimney Pond ranger station and made us laugh :)   "RANGER OUTPOST NOT Gift Shop/Snack Bar"

All in all it was a good trip and even though 7 people who hiked to the top had to hike the last 3-4 miles in the dark and with flashlights (and in the pouring rain) they all said it was awesome and they want to do it again :)

I just want to sleep.

Friday, September 30

Just a quickie! :)

Well, it has yet again been a while since the last "real" post....sorry 'bout that.  Life in PI is as busy as usual, for example, last night while on duty I got to deal with a possible case of appendicitis (this was okay) and not even 4 hours later I was given the incredible opportunity to clean condoms off door handles(this was NOT okay)......that was not a night I love my job........GROOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

Honestly, I think when the number of men in a group increases, the brain cell function exponentially drops.

I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon to take a bunch of students to hike Katahdin :)  Can't wait!  It will be fun, I'm praying for at least decent weather for the students, but it will be fun no matter what :)

A couple nights ago we had had some beautiful days and the sunsets were GORGEOUS :)  for example, Sunday night I got to watch this out my apartment window:

The following evening I was about going nuts from being stuck in my apartment for the past 72+ hours so I jumped into the Black Widow and went for a scenic sunset drive :)

Just as the sun dropped behind the hills out in Castle Hill

As I was driving around to Mapleton there was a GINORMOUS flock of Canada Geese flying....this is only 1/4 of the flock.

The purple ones are purple from the "dusk" setting on my camera, this is looking out over Haystack "Mountain" from the Mapleton end :)

I'm so excited for fall :)   It is my favorite season, a season of death, but of so much more :)

Recap

Stress.

Somehow, through some odd twist of psychology, stress is both a good and a bad thing.  I guess it really isn’t that odd as everyone is always saying, “Everything in moderation.”  But what is the moderation allowed for stress before it becomes bad?  I am forever trying to balance this.  I get odd looks when I tell someone that because of my procrastination and perfectionism tendencies, I need a “therapeutic level of stress” in my life in order to help me achieve my goals.

However, judging by the physical manifestations this week….I’d say the stress is headed toward the dark side.  Multiple canker sores?  Check.  Cracked lips?  Check.  Breakout on face?  Check.  Fatigued?  Check.  Racing thoughts?  Check.  Headache?  Check.

There is a lot on my mind right now and I’m trying to sort through it and to give it up to the Lord.

ResLife has had a good but psychosocially busy year so far.  It has required a lot of heart and patience.   I am so thankful that God has provided that to me as I’ve needed it.  Discernment to make good judgment calls—thank goodness for that.

Tomorrow night is the first of our Small Group meetings……I think it will be a small group :).  I’m looking forward to it, but am hugely intimidated.  All prayers are VERY much appreciated.

Underway and beginning to breathe

Man, I am just BAD at blogging! lol

Well, my year has thankfully settled into a rhythm...not really a very slow or relaxing one, but a rhythm none the less! I LOVE being an RA and really getting to interact with a lot more students than last year. It is such a rewarding job but man there are definitely some not so fun parts. For Example: having students who decide this is not for them and go home, it is hard to watch and realize that sometimes there is nothing I could have done to change their minds....but there is always the "what if i had..." in the back of my mind. Then there are the great phone calls that a toilet is overflowing and could I please call maintenance...except maintenance doesn't work weekends...so I can stick an "out of order" sign on the door until monday and make the guys use another bathroom (because the toilet has been plugged and overflowing so long it has gone from one end to the other!) or i can go track down a plunger, unplug the toilet, and then mop up the whole floor.......they better enjoy their clean bathroom!!!! I won't lie, it is intimidating being a female RA on a majority male campus (and all the rooms on my hall are men's rooms) but I'm really blessed to have this opportunity to get to know them.

Nursing this year is still hard, but it sure feels a lot different! It is nice to kind of have a handle on what to expect for test material. The instructors for this year are SOOOOOO different from last year, everyone is wicked soft spoken and really is just trying to help you along, every step of the way. O O O! Second year you have a different advisor from first year....and mine is my last advisor's sister! How funny is that? BUT there is a big difference between the two....Eileen is MUCH more relaxed and sweet than Janice....it is hard to believe they are related!

Big nursing test on Tuesday, back to the books!

Record Highs!

WOWEE! Yesterday the vast majority of the state had record high temps......Portland's record high was 51.......however up here in the far north our record high was a whopping 37....woot. lol

I started clinical in at The Aroostook Medical Center last week. For my first day I got to follow a wound care nurse around during a wound care clinic. I got to see a lot of venous stasis ulcers and a very bad case of frostbite. Wicked cool and extremely interesting!

This week is going to go quickly I think, I can hardly wait for friday!!! I'm WICKED excited to see my grover peoples :):):):)

I went skiing on Saturday with another guy I tutor with. The conditions were PERFECT and the weather was GORGEOUS!!! I don't think there could have been a better day! It was fun because he could ski well too so we just skied hard and fast all for about 4 hours!! SOOOOOOO fun!

This semester due to some major budget cuts the position of activities coordinator here on campus was cut. That meant we lost our open gym, movie nights, pretty much all on campus organized activities. Stink. A few of us students have formed a student activity committee. We had our first meeting on Saturday afternoon and I think it is going well. We are set to start after we get back from break in a couple weeks.

I had to take a woman to the ER last night. She was really sick and vomiting blood. Thankfully I brought my schoolwork because we were there for a very long time. Turns out she has Bacterial Gastroenteritis which is very contagious.....I've been washing my hands TONS and I'm about ready to clean the bathroom with bleach....lol I guess the incubation period is 72 hours.....I'm praying I don't get it.....that would make me sick over the weekend when I'm supposed to be in Grove City. :(

Well, back to studying, hugs, e.

New Year, New Semester, New Snow

I'm not a big believer in "new year's resolutions", but i decided to make a few "goals" for myself this year. They are in no particular order:

1. Cut all dairy from my diet (I'm allergic and it is making me sick--don't worry I'm taking Calcium!)
2. Blog more frequently.....boy that one is going well!
3. Complete at least 75% of my nursing reading by the day before the class
4. Learn how to play racquetball....but I need a racquet :)
5. Keep my room mostly picked up and clean ALL the time
6. Refresh my Spanish

Not too long or overly exciting but something a little different not the less.

This semester is in full swing. Last week was miserably stressful, I had return demos for injections, clinical site orientation, I almost got in a car accident (gotta love 180s), and I had a Nursing Exam. UGH. Everything turned out okay and I actually did pretty well on my exam :)

I came back this semester expecting to have no hall-mates as my last one moved out at the end of last semester. I was pleasantly surprised to find 3 new women in Heather's place! I like them all and we get along well! Estela is from Portland, it took me quite a while to figure out the reason I couldn't understand her was because she has only lived here for 5 years and before that lived in Egypt and Sudan. She's a hoot and went home with me this weekend. Ashlei is from Jonesport. She's a nursing student, too, and has a thick downeast accent :) Candi is my mom's age and is from Oklahoma. She's pretty overwhelmed with all the studying but is determined! I have to help her every now and then with her computer and DVD player....it is just like being at home! haha

God's been pretty cool thus far. I was really not wanting to live on campus this semester but God didn't give me any peace about moving off. I stayed and God has given me so many opportunities! Last weekend I decided to do an impromptu game night with a few friends, i think there were 5 of us total. We had a blast and a couple of them have approached me about doing it again soon, maybe this weekend! :):):) Sooooo excited! :)

Well, I still have a lot of reading to do. I get to dissect a sheep eye this afternoon in anatomy, woohoo! My lab partner is grossed out and is bringing a mask. heehee

hugs, e.

A Delicate Balance of Abnormality

So I'm still a bad blogger. Nothing new there. At least I can accept that....isn't that the first step in fixing a problem? Acknowledging that I actually have one?

Anyways, in an attempt to better my blogging abilities, here is my life. In all its abnormality.

I am loving my Nursing classes and I like all my classes in general and realize this is what i do want to do. God blessed me with a great hall-mate who is kind of my roommate but not really. (we live on a 5 room wing. all the rooms are doubles, but we both have "singles" --double rooms with only one occupant--and the other 3 rooms are empty. so we basically have our own space but we see each other all the time) anyways, it is really neat because we've been able to kind of church hunt together and have regular life conversations, etc. i started my clinical stuff last week. I'm doing mine at the maine veterans home in Presque Isle.....and that is basically all i can tell you because of patient confidentiality :) Grade-wise/stress-wise this year is going very well and is a welcome relief from Grove City in that regard.

However, I miss my Grover friends miserably and that part has been extremely difficult. I know this is where I'm supposed to be and the whole friend thing has been a major growing point. The social scene is extremely lacking up here and I haven't met many new people...very few.

I am enjoying being in "the County" though, it is so beautiful and the people are so nice. :) I have found a church that I like up here, too!

This weekend I went home and got to spend time with my family....we had some adventures :) I got to be the camerawoman for Hillary and Jacob's latest production (an English project) and was dying laughing the whole time....they are so numb!!! lol They left for Fryeburg Fair this afternoon....so sad I didn't get to go! :( Oh, haha, on Saturday morning I awoke to the sound of the washmachine (it is right next to my bedroom) and Dragonforce's Through the Fire and the Flames blasting on about 50 just outside my bedroom door....when I opened my door and came out Hillary was like, "wow, are you seriously just waking up?" I said, "ummmm, yeah?" Hillary: "whoa, how did you sleep through that? we've been up for like an hour or so!" Apparently I am a very heavy sleeper......either that or Dragonforce is a lullaby :).

So now I am back up north. Work in the morning. Good night! e.

PS I have come to the conclusion that I cannot imagine life without music. I am so thankful that God gave us that! My life could be a musical....every morning I wake up with a song in my head... even before I open my eyes. I don't think that is normal. Friday it was Audio Adrenaline's "Original Species", yesterday it was Brandi Carlile's "The Story" and today it was Fleetwood Mac's "Never Going Back Again"....hm, maybe that was an omen....that I was going back to school.....hrm.

Sunday, February 10

Wowwee Zowwee!

I cannot believe how quickly time has passed! I've been quite awful at keeping this updated, I'm sorry!

Well, since my last post my Papa has passed away. It is very sad not having him here and Thanksgiving and Christmas were very weird without him. Not to mention all the times I have when something cool happens or reminds me of him and I want to call him and hear his voice, but then I remember he isn't here.

School last semester was hard because I missed quite a few days of studying and classes to visit with my Papa before he passed away and then for the funeral. This semester is going well so far, I like all of my classes and one of my professors who is retireing this spring reminds me of Papa... kinda weird.

It is miserably cold and blustery today and we couldn't even see the cars going by on the road from inside the front door of church today because of the white out (the church is only about 25-30ftMAX off the road!) There was a praise/worship service last night that Mt. Olive participated in, it was with a whole bunch of different denominations and we met at the Tower Church (Presbyterian). The church was ENORMOUS!!! I have never in my life been in a church that big. It was like sitting in a cavern. The coolest part though was being with all the people of different denominations just worshipping, so cool. Like Pastor Armstead said, "What if they don't play your song in heaven? Would you still want to go?" I think that really drives home that it isn't necessarily how we worship but that we worship the same God.

Friday night was the Extravaganza, the funnest dance of the year! :):):) A whole bunch of us went it is literally half of the student body smushed into one of the rec rooms with lots of music and lights and it is just a hoot with lots of free food....the whole thing is free! :)

Indoor Intermural soccer starts this week....we are doing a team and it should be a blast...we aren't very good but it is still wicked fun! :) O! O! O! I've been practicing shooting basketball left handed and it is getting really good! :) I can't wait for IM basketball!

On a closing note, I dyed part of my hair last week...a really fun purplish pink color. it is on the underside so you can't see it unless I have my hair up. (so it can still be normal if I need it to be! :))

Have a great week! E.

Fall is here!!!

~my roomie and I!

Yesterday was the first day of fall! It doesn't feel like it though, it is 72* and it is only 11am!!!!! aaaaahhhh! oh well.

Life is hectic but good. I'm doing well in my classes even though I have a couple that are wicked hard. My jobs are good but I missed a lot of work last week because I was wicked sick....I was sick for 6 whole days!!!! And no voice for 3 days.....icky. I'm playing IM flagfootball this year....so far we are 0-2. I tackled a girl in the first game...kinda on accident. haha Turf burns on both knees...good memories.

I am doing "adopt a grandparent" for my service thing for my Foundations of Education class. I adopted a lady named Eva. I haven't met her yet, I'm going to see her this afternoon. She is in an assisted living place. Later tonight is our first home nighttime foorball game! yay! We are doing a "white out" and they were selling glow in the dark tshirts in the sac this weekend.....should be a blast and there are fireworks afterwards too!

I have to go find some lunch and do a bit of work before I go see Eva, hugs, miss you, e.

Monday, September 3

First real weekend back!

I took this pic the morning Tyler and I left Maine, the sun was coming up just as we drove into Bangor. It is so beautiful!

So far school is going well. My classes all seem like they will be manageable with the exception of my ecology class which could be wicked hard. My Professor wants all of our lab reports to be in the style of a scientific journal article! AAAAHHH!

Between studying and work I haven't really had tons of time to catch up with friends and some I really haven't seen at all. I got my Sunday shift changed! Yay! Now I can still go to Mt. Olive!

This weekend I went for a walk on Saturday morning, I went to the post office, the Salvation Army, and the farmer's stand at the American Legion. It was nice and cool and very relaxing to be doing something besides work/study. Saturday night I went to the street dance with a bunch of friends :) it was wicked fun and there were alot of people there! At the beginning it was all upperclassmen and the Orientation Board people but eventually freshmen came.

Sunday, after church, April, my friend Arielle's older sister, invited me to join them for lunch in her apartment. It was wicked nice and a welcome change from teh cafeteria!

Wow, the new cafeteria is amazing! I can't even explain it other than it is blue with industrial style ceilings and lots of different stations so there are hardly any lines! It is wicked wicked nice!

Well, today I am homeworking and then going with my entomology class tonight to go nighttime bug catching! :) should be fun!

Hugs, Love and miss you all! e.

Thursday, August 30

I'm Back!!!

Hi all! I'm finally back at school...though i really liked being home and didn't really want to come back and start school again. I really missed my friends here though!

Tyler and I drove down on Saturday, we left my house at 4:30am....ick! But, that meant we arrived earlier which was nice! I got my room stuff out of storage on Sunday evening, so much of it is only temporarily unpacked and there is a lot more to go.

Church on Sunday was really cool because Pastor Armstead really covered all of the things that I had been praying about and struggling with this summer...kinda cool confirmation from God that Mt. Olive is where I'm supposed to be right now.

Please pray about my schedule, I'm currently working 2 jobs on campus but one of my shifts interferes with church. I emailed my RD so hopefully it can get switched, but we'll see!

Well, I have some precalc homework to finish up, love you all! e.

Almost Done!

Sorry it has been a while since my last post....life's been slightly crazy! :)

Well, this past Friday I had 3 exams and a 5 page paper due....yucky. I spent the previous 1.5 weeks studying for those and I think I did fine on them, we'll find out tomorrow maybe! :) I was pretty fried by the time those were done and over with.

On Friday night I went to the last orchestra concert. I have a lot of friends who are in it so it was pretty neat to get to see/ listen to them play!

Saturday a bunch of my friends and I went to the Sadie Hawkins Dance here on campus...most of us just asked guy friends to go as only 2 of the 8 girls who went actually had boyfriends! :) We had a blast and the top two prizes for "best dressed" went to people in our group! Number one was Kirsten and Luke who went as Zoolander and that really mean lady, and number two was Alissa and Turk who went as Phantom and Christine....we also had friends who went as Peter Pan and Wendy, A Celeb and her Bodyguard, and Westley and Princess Buttercup (from the Princess Bride)....along with a girl who dressed as a guy and her boyfriend wore a skirt, sweater, and a hair ribbon.....it was hilarious! :) and slightly disturbing! lol My friend Alan and I decided to go as Napoleon Dynamite and Deb (considering he already bears a pretty decent resemblance to John Heder.....lol) We all had a blast and it was a great study break! :)

Classes this week are going better, I have my first final next Monday night. Today was my last day of Chemistry lab! :) That was nice! Once again we got to make S'Mores on a bunsen burner.....yummy!

Time to finish studying for tomorrow! Hugs to all....miss you lots! I'll be home soon! Love, e.

Spring!

Happy first day of spring!!!!

Today was one of those rare, beautiful days at GCC; the sun actually shone and it didn't rain, not even a drop!!! :) It was actually pretty nice, too, I didn't have to wear a coat! (that NEVER happens!)

This half of the semester my fitwell lab (required of all freshmen) is lovely (NOT) aerobics. It is a wicked fun class where we get to sweat until we can't see and then exercise until we can no longer feel our appendages.....oh, did I mention all the while your heart feels like it will burst and your lungs start breaking out of your ribcage? All of this was in the name of "cardio kickboxing".....sounds harmless enough...but beware! :)

Our IM bowling team is undefeated! Yay!!!! Our IM basket ball team is, too! With the help of 2 forfeits, we are now 4 for 4! :) Tonight we had a game against a team with 10 girls....we only had 6 and one has shin splints really bad and couldn't play more than a couple minutes.....but we won!!!! 34-11!!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!! SOOOOOO much fun!

Classes are going well, we are finally getting back into chem concepts that I understand!!! (or can figure out!) Bio is going well, I love that class! It is all plants and bugs!!! :) (did I mention my favorite professor teaches it? :) ) I have 2 exams, a big paper and a little paper due on Monday....ick, not fun.

Miss you all and look forward to being home in 9 days!!!!!!! Hugs, E.

Monday, March 19

Hello!

Hello Everyone!

Last weekend my mom, sister, and brother came out to PA, we had an awesome visit, I had a blast with them! Hills got my bed and I slept on the floor....not so comfy! :) Sisterly love! haha It was pretty fun and it was really nice to see them...I can't wait until Easter break!!!!

This week has been rather crazy....no major exams but lots of little things that kind of piled up and made life quite hectic...

Our Intramural soccer team finished up...we didn't make it into the finals but we had a blast playing! I am now doing IM Bowling (we have an 8 lane alley here on campus) with 4 of my friends and so far we have won both of our matches! :) I'm also subbing for the hall IM basketball team when they don't have enough girls...we won our first game of the season and the second game the team forfeited so we got that as a win as well!! :) I'm trying to see about doing a hall IM softball (slow pitch!) team....but so far there are not enough girls interested....the good thing about IM sports here is that they are not too intense...mostly like pick up games at home....just fun! and good study breaks!

I had "Pelkey Church" today, was nice, listened to music from the Lincoln Christian Fellowship site (Part of HOME!!!!) and did my own bible study, it was nice....really miss my church family!

Well, I have a lot to do for classes tomorrow! Hugs to you all!!! E.

Friday, February 16

Exams, Valentines, and a Snow Day

I made it through most of my exams! :) All except the Biology one which got postponed to next Wednesday due to the snow day on Valentines Day! :) It was the first snow day in 18-22 years here at Grove City College...kind of crazy! We had fun though and didn't object to not having classes! haha

Our soccer team is doing okay...mostly we're just having fun! We lost 2 games, won one and tied one thus far....but it is a good way to break up the week and to get some exercise!

I'm doing the Relay for Life this year! I was going to create a team but didn't get the notice about the organizational meeting until the night before the sign up and I couldn't make it to the meeting so I joined the ACS(American Chemists Society GCC Chapter) team. I think it will be fun!

Mom called this morning and told me that Olivia (my friend who has a brain tumor) had taken a turn for the worse. She's not doing very well and the cancer is spreading. She's a senior in high school. Please keep her in your prayers. I put together a get well package this afternoon and Katherine (my roomie) is heading up another package of get well cards from the girls on our hall. Everyone is so nice about it!!!

Alissa (lives next door) has her orchestra concert tomorrow night. I'm wicked excited to go to it; I went to the fall one and it was amazing!!! Will be a nice chance to relax!

I signed up for the ACS trip to the Carnegie museum in March....it was only $6 and I thought like it sounded like a good fun way to get off of campus!! haha

Well, I have to go finish writing my bibliography for my Civ Arts paper,
Hugs, I love you and miss you all! Love, Elizabeth
